My previous job as a manager within a hotel entailed doing stocktakes, with a monthly visit by Stocktake UK to audit my work. I always enjoyed that side of things, and back in 2013, when our auditor (now a colleague) suggested that I purchased a franchise, I didn’t think twice.
My dairy started to fill fairly quickly after completion of training, with some sites coming on board that I still visit now, 10 years down the line. Post Covid, the business has grown stronger than ever, which was a welcome relief after a a couple of years of restrictions/lockdowns. Managing your own dairy comes with some perks and gives more flexibility with my time than my previous job, especially since most (but not all!) of my weekends are now free to spend time with family and friends.
I started working in hotels whilst studying my A-Levels, and started to enjoy the work, the more experience I gained, so decided to give it a go as a career. I progressed to Food and Beverage manager which involved taking care of the running of restaurant, multiple bars, weddings, conferences and functions. I also enjoyed the administrative side of things such as doing rotas, ordering, and most importantly. Stocktaking!
The thing I enjoy most about my job as a Stocktaker in Nottinghamshire is the variety of work. No day is the same. I could be working in a 5 star hotel, a local pub, a golf club, or anything in between. I work both solo, but sometimes as part of a team which is always nice.
On a Saturday, I can often be found at Pride Park, cheering on Derby county, not that there has been much to cheer about in recent years. I love cooking, especially when it’s outdoors on the BBQ or pizza oven and with a cold beer or glass of wine. Any other spare time is currently spent renovating the house I recently purchased with my partner, or planning our wedding for later this year.
If you could go back in time and offer your former self any advice what would it be?
Nice variety of work. Managing your own diary. Good potential of income if you are willing to put in the hours.
